Too many DMs, not enough upvotes or comments

I'm just starting out and I'm testing out some different posts and communities. This is a new account, so obviously I have limits atm.

Anyway, when I post I always get more chat requests than engagement. I know I'm working with a small sample size, but there is definitely a pattern. I'm getting about 3 DMs for every comment, and even fewer upvotes. So, most of the DM requesters don't bother upvoting or commenting, and my posts drop really fast.

Is this a typical pattern? What would you suggest to flip the ratio and get more engagement?
