Tl;dr- Don't let character hate prevent you from playing the characters you love.
I've seen a few different posts and comments about this topic; wanted to weigh in real quick.
All characters, whether top tier, bottom tier, or anywhere in between, have strengths people will complain about. This is just a basic fact of the game; you're going to have to deal with character hate, no matter who you play.
How you deal with it, though, is the real crux of the matter. I've seen many players on this sub and in my regions feel like playing certain characters less due to perceived character hate. While there's nothing objectively wrong with that (you can play whatever character you want for whatever reason), my personal opinion is that this is pushing players away from characters they really enjoy playing.
Now, in my opinion, the vast majority of players, whether casual or competitive, should aim to primarily play with characters they find fun. Even top level pros play the characters they personally enjoy the most rather than the theoretical top-tier characters, because at the end of the day Ultimate is balanced enough that they can win with anybody.
My point is simple; play the characters you want to play, you don't need to take anyone else's personal opinion into account. This is a game. I love competition as much as the next guy, but I really don't think it's a good idea to main a top-tier character you don't really enjoy long term over any character you do enjoy.
