Post Body

So I could have sworn I got three female Australian red claw crayfish. Of course when I got them they were all very young, none of them had any red. But I checked their tails and they all looked female. I'm like, 90% sure they were too young to breed when I got them, and there's only the three of them in the tank. It's been months, probably getting close to a year at least since I got them.

Of course, everything says that only males get the red claws, which was disappointing to me at first but, lo and behold, two of them developed red claws. But when I checked their tails, again they absolutely looked female to me.

And yet, mysteriously, baby crayfish have suddenly appeared in the tank. I counted three, but I wasn't looking too hard. They're adorably small, and whatnot. But I tried to get three females specifically because I didn't want to breed them. (Also I wanted less aggression between them.)

I got nothing. I feel stupid, because I know one of them has to be male, I know by all accounts both of the ones with red claws should be male, but for the life of me I cannot find their male bits.

Does anyone have a sharper eye than me?
