Gauntlet Codex 1.0
Unit Bans
- Awakened Hilde, Joo Shiyoung, Sylvia Lena Cooper, and Rosaria evaded bans for some reason.
- Elizabeth ban makes Rosaria a bit safer and the Xiao Lin ban surprisingly makes Titan safer.
- I would argue that Kyle Wong would not work this week due to his walls not effectively blocking Joo, Rosaria, Sylvia or Gaeun ultimates.
- Gaeun and Yang Harim should viable due to the Elizabeth and Awakened Yoo Mina Ban. Twins ban would also mean they would not be randomly sucked into their ultimate. They are also much tankier compared to other damage dealers or supports.
- Twins should still be viable in some compositions.
- Awakened Yoo Mina should still be viable at Ban 1, especially if don't really want to build other units to climb this week.
Ship Bans
- Enterprise should still be viable if you don't have any other ship and I would argue that it is still better than Gleipnir SR. You will, however, need to be on the offensive against Ban 0 ships as you start with less HP.
- Lake Superior at Ban 3 is very surprising since that means people were still running it at Ban 2.
- I don't have New Ohio and I don't have much experience playing against it. I would recommend running this as there aren't much soldiers in the meta unless you really need the Special Skill in your strategy.
Unit Ups
- Jake Walker - A good alternative to Awakened Yoo Mina and Elizabeth but less flexible because of the small range of his ETB and deployment range. His ETB, Special and Ultimate also hits Air units.
- Terminator - I think Terminator is the least relevant of the UP units this week since he is not a good opener, nor does he turn around a losing battle. It doesn't help that he can't do anything against Rosaria and Evelyn as well. He should be very good but only in specific drafts, whereas the other two could work in more teams, and are free units to get.
- John Mason - Makes stacking melee units very dangerous this week. If you cannot reach him, he will keep silencing your frontline. He also deals deceptively more damage than the DPS chart since he strips off all shields. He does, however, have a problem surviving like most Rangers.
Notable Unit Choices
- Awakened Hilde - Nothing too much to say about her. You have to set her as a leader if you plan to use her this week as there are no possible drafts that can easily cycle through the deck.
- Joo Shiyoung - Enterprise ban makes her viable and she should be able to survive this week since the premiere damage dealers are 4-cost Rangers. Can easily jump to and disrupt the backline.
- Lee Yumi - Cheaper alternative tank compared to A Hilde. Should have no problem surviving this week if you pick the right draft.
- Evelyn Keller - Hands down the best healer and she's a free unit. Deceptively tanky because she's flying and doesn't really die to random bullshit. Her burst heal is only on her ultimate so don't deploy her too late.
- Jake Walker - Can 1-tap Rosaria and Gaeun if you spec him Anti-Ranger. I'm assuming that his ETB also has no valid hits limit since it is not stated, so if you drop him in a stack, as long he is specced correctly he should still be able to assassinate his target.
- Maria Antonov - The ultimate stalemate breaker if you hate waiting for the enemy to drop their units first. She makes everyone on her team hit harder with her passive. Her ultimate should be treated as a defensive skill that absorbs valid hits from Gaeun's Ultimate. Her Special skill will also keep chipping at everyone and should not be discounted.
- Rosaria La Friede - Solid choice with the Elizabeth ban but will still die to Sylvia or Jake so don't use her too aggressively. Doesn't really dent the frontline or Awakened Hilde too much so I would recommend using her conservatively or as a reactionary card.
- Gaeun - Still currently the queen of the PVP even at Ban 1. Survives really well and can even best her counters. If she is playable, she makes some of the squishier backline units less appealing to use because of her very strong Ultimate. Still, she is currently a 4-drop and has to be protected since it is very hard to cycle through the deck this week.
- Yang Harim - Viable at Ban 1 because of the Awakened Yoo Mina ban which naturally discourages people from using her. She's naturally tanky as well and doesn't have any problem surviving most aoe damage.
Other Unit Choices
- Joo Shiyoon - Still a good pick but dies easily to Gaeun Ultimate and Maria Special. Will get absolutely murdered by Joo Shiyoung too.
- Kang Soyoung - Less viable as she doesn't kill anyone but Sylvia, which has been relegated to a reactive card this week rather than a main damage dealer.
- Sylvia Lena Cooper - When Gaeun is usable, she is less viable as she dies too easily to Gaeun Ultimate. However, you can use her as a reactive card to assassinate Gaeun if you spec her with Anti-Ranger, which would still end up as a positive trade even if she dies, moreso if she kills more than 1 target.
- John Mason - If you manage to keep him alive, he will be very good at sealing skills but he won't be dealing that much damage outright for a 3-drop. Treat him as a support unit.
- Titan - Personally I haven't been able to make him work because of scuffed gears and my Titan not being limit broken, but I have ran into Titan teams that have caused me a lot of problems.
- Jane Doe - With the Twins ban, I think her draft's strategy is 1 cost too much. I think an all-striker team with New Detroit is viable, but is of course, one-dimensional. More A. Hilde Leaders this week as well, so less chances to catch people off-guard.
- Nanahara Chifuyu - I think she loses value if there are less frontliners to seal skills with, and will easily get debuffed and picked off by other popular draft picks. She will also be very hard to cycle back to if she dies early and gives little value. Still a very good pick, and should work very well if you want to play more aggressively.
Notable Ship Choices
- Kamiizumi - Very strong knockback from its Ultimate and a vacuum which removes one buff from its Special. This should be the ship to play if you plan to be more aggressive.
- Gleipnir: Armor Type - Overall solid ship but offers less ways to deal with the enemy backline. Its best quality comes from being able to stop Awakened Yoo Mina when she deploys with its Ultimate, but with her banned this week I find that it should have less uses.
- Gleipnir: Pod Type - Great ship for Lee Yumi, Joo Shiyoon, and Lee Jisoo which would help keep them alive if you plan to draft these units.
- Enterprise - Usable if you don't have any other ship. I would argue that this ship is still better than the SR Gleipnir.
- The rest of the ships should be viable if and only if you have a specific draft or strategy in mind. The ships that I listed here, however, should be better in most situations.
Final Notes
- Thank you for reading!
- Any feedback is appreciated.
- There are definitely more obscure and convoluted teams out there but my gears are too scuffed to try them out. Looking forward to see what everyone drafts!
- Team that I'm currently running if anyone's interested. Will upload some gameplay footage soon!
