A note about self checkout and your number of items

Post Body

As I was reading a thread about self checkout etiquette I realized that some of you may not realize what actually happens when people come through self checkout with a lot of stuff.

Here's a couple reasons why having a lot of items at self checkout can be an issue

  1. There's a weight limit on the scale. If you put too much stuff on it, it will stop you from doing anything else. You have to take everything off to continue. It's not the most common thing but I've seen that happen 3 times and it's a big hassle for the member.

  2. People pile their crap up and then try to balance their chicken pot pie, eggs, street tacos, etc on top and it inevitably falls and makes a mess we have to clean up.

  3. The person checking the receipt at the exit door should be counting every single item on a SCO receipt. No matter what. If you have 42 items on your receipt then it's going to take a bit causing the line to back up. Now, I know that depends on your warehouse and how diligent the receipt checker is, but it is what's supposed to be done.

Just because none of this has happened to you doesn't meant it doesn't happen at all all. You're in the store for maybe a couple hours a week at most and you're doing your own thing. I'm there 40 hours paying attention to this stuff specifically.

Edit: Thanks for all of the suggestions about putting up signs, having an item limit, marking receipts "just do this or that", etc.!

But you guys know I have zero control over this stuff right? I'm just stating the reality of it all. Please feel free to bring your suggestions to our corporate overloards' attention! They'll listen if enough members complain!
