That could also totally work! BUT just remember that you can't color a black wig any other color if you're using sharpies, so you'd need to get a brown or deep red wig and color the roots. The only way you can put color on black is with hair chalk....and maaaybe painting it with acrylic paint?? But I think the chalk will look more natural (but just as a note, it's not technically a permanent color and it can wash out!) https://youtu.be/SvHGohdcEps
The tips would have to be a color other than black! You can't dye fully black wigs 'cause they can't take color (the same way you can't dye black hair), but you also can't bleach them 'cause you'd just destroy the fibers.
However! I went looking for a good wig, and this one might work without any dye! You'd have to cut and style it, but you'd probably have to cut and style most wigs you found, so it's a bit easier: https://a.co/d/aSvW78X
You could look for a short black wig with red tips, and then dye the red a darker shade by briefly dipping them in black or brown dye, OR using the spray technique with a deep brown or black marker (since spraying usually gives a much softer color).
You might be able to find a black wig with brown tips too?? But it seems a bit tougher to track down

oh man, they can TOTALLY be dyed!! It's a really common technique for cosplayers since so many characters' hair is so outlandish. It's that some can't be dyed because the fiber they're made out of won't allow it. You just need to look at what the wigs are made to be sure you can dye them.
