Rhythm of War is probably my favorite cosmere book but to me its biggest flaw was changing how Moash was depicted. I saw books 1-3 Moash as an extremely nuanced character who was doing the wrong things for justifiable reasons. His hatred of Elhokar felt 100% justified to me and his actions in Words of Radiance were morally wrong but at the same time understandable and not worthy of hate to me.
In Oathbringer we see him come to some of the same conclusions Kaladin comest to in the same book. That the singers are an oppressed people just trying to have a place in the world. And once again the two of them pick different sides and while i was still rooting for Kal still thought Moash was making decisions that were reasonable given his past.
But of course he was hated by the fandom like none other. And in Rhythm of War he just became this boring villain type character who just acted crazy and evil. Could BS have been planning a redemption arc or something for him but realized it would be extremely unpopular? Did anyone think Moash's changes after OB were a natural progression not a complete change in how he was written? Curious to hear your thoughts.
