No 9 pin USB header on motherboard for lighting node core?

Edit - Used a 19 pin USB 3 to 9 pin USB 2 adaptor plugged directly into the MOBO and it resolved the problem.

Hi,

Has anyone else faced this issue and how did you resolve it?

I have just added three Corsair RGB fans and a controller to my daughter's PC but the motherboard (HP Tampa 2) doesnt have a spare 9 pin USB header (it doesnt have any in fact). I got around this by using a 9 pin to USB cable and plugging it into one of the motherboard mounted ports at the rear of the PC, this is the cable I used - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08Q2TLWGV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The fans are lit and going through a repeated lighting sequence from one to three, which is I guess the default from the controller, so the controller is powered and doing something. I can't get the PC to see it though, if I go to the device manager it shows as an unknown device (Device Descriptor Request Failed).

I have double checked the connection to the controller for both power and the USB connection, I have tried connecting it to a different port (have tried it in both USB 2 and 3 ports). I have tried deleting the device and restarting but it still comes back as the same. I can only conclude that the cable solution isn't working, but not sure how to get around this.

Has anyone else tried a similar setup? the only other thing I can think to try is to use the 19 pin front panel USB header via an adaptor to 9 pin, but I would lose the front panel USB port in doing that.
