Shared washing machines a risk?

Okay so if you’re one of those unlucky mofos like me who have to share a washing mashine with ever-changing, international neighbors (student accommodation or temporary business accommodation for example), does that put you at risk? I can’t wash everything at >60C obviously... What can I do? To make things worse, I only have ONE bloody room so I am leaving my winter jacket and boots in the basement before I enter the studio. 🙄
