Wybie is more of a tragic character than you might think I mean his name is why-were-you-born for crying out loud. Wybie seems to be lonely and his grandmother doesn't seem to help she actually makes it worse with how over protecting she is. There is most likely reason Wybie lives with his grandmother and it is probably the same reason he is named why-were-you-born and that is because he is neglected by his parents and maybe just maybe he is being abused. I mean he is never sounds genuinely happy and is overly tired plus he is slunched over. Coraline clearly doesn't know what bad parenting is because her parents actually love her.
Interestingly Wybie is not in the book

Yea i was like ummmm Wybie isn’t originally in the story?! I felt like the book was lacking without him
