Some days ago someone wrote on here that their obgyn had to order a copper IUD just for them because apparently no one chooses this method as much as the hormonal IUDs. So I’m just curious about people’s motivations on choosing a non-hormonal method/IUD.
Some of my reasons:
💛 Allergic to endogenous and exogenous progesterone and progestin so I can’t use any hormonal method at all
💛 I’m an athlete so I feel like I benefit from my own natural hormonal cycle. I do feel less productive when I’m PMDD and having my period but I learned how to synchronize my menstrual/hormonal cycle, my diet, activities and exercise routine. Accepting my own natural cycle because I have no other choice also forces me to learn how to be more forgiving and less harsh on myself
💛 I enjoy my fertile window libido. I still had good sex drive when I was on the pill (I wasn’t allergic as a teen) but the fertile window sex drive is on another level
💛 I have a strong family history of osteoporosis (mother, maternal grandmother, maternal great-grandmother) and I read that progesterone produced by our bodies (which is blocked from hormonal methods and maybe hormonal IUDs) protects bone and cardiovascular health. Most doctors would say “it’s just a theory, never proven to be true” but I rather not playing with it
