IUD is in place, doctor says it’s too large for my uterus and that’s why I’m having awful pain and intermenstrual bleeding

Post Body

I just returned from the ultrasound. I thought my copper T IUD was being expelled after 3 months because I bled for 12 days straight, had unusually heavy cramps (I’m still cramping a bit like in my period and I’m ovulating) and the strings felt longer. Doctor who did my ultrasound said the IUD is perfectly placed but he gave the medical opinion that my uterus is small (I’ve never been pregnant) and even though the copper T IUD fits, it’s too big and it could be causing the cramps and bleeding. He said “if I could give you an advice, I’d tell you to talk to your doctor about a mini IUD. It would fit your uterus better”. My current doctor is from a Catholic hospital (he doesn’t prescribe any contraception) so I’ll have to look for another one to talk about a mini IUD (the one who inserted mine is a State doctor in a public health clinic and they only insert the T one. I’ll have to pay for the mini IUD in a private clinic). But does anyone know if what the doctor said makes any sense? Is it worth getting a mini IUD? I’m scared of spending money and having the exact same issues when I got this one for free.
