What is a good solids-to-liquid ratio for soup?

I've been experimenting with a chicken noodle soup recipe of my own making, but I'm never sure how much of the solids (chicken, veggies, etc.) to put in my stock pot before putting in the liquid. Is there such thing as too thick a soup? TIA
