After seeing how willing you guys were to help out someone asking about their fear of oil, I decided to ask for advice as well. I have been dealing with a growing anxiety related to sharp knives for a few years now. It has gotten so bad I can barely watch someone use them in real life, can't wash them and have avoided using them as much as possible for the last couple of years, specially the big ones. I started using serrated knives almost exclusively. If something requires a big sharp knife to be cut, I'll have someone else at home do it for me. Any advice on how to feel comfortable using them again? I do know the basics when it comes to technique and safety, and haven't really cut myself too many times or had any serious injuries, I just became more and more scared of the possibility of getting hurt for no apparent reason.
EDIT: Many, if not most comments suggested I should take this issue to a therapist, and I believe that's the most reasonable approach. I didn't realise it was this grave until I posted this, to be honest. I'll be going back to therapy asap and will make sure to mention it. Thanks, folks! Also, thanks to everyone who gave me other practical advice on how to navigate this situation until I figure it out! 💜
