My wife and I have a GCC. We got “him” (not sexed) about 2 months ago and we were told he is roughly 3 years old. We have had no issues with him until about 2 weeks ago. He had started trying to eat our food and would attack when we tried to remove him. We put him in cage time out with a stern “no”. We resorted to keeping him in the cage while we eat.
He has also started to become protective over his food. Every time we try to do anything with it while he is in the cage, we are met with aggression and biting. We now take him out of the cage to change his food.
Now he is getting aggressive every time I come near the cage. He puffs up, bobs his head forward and makes intimidating sounds. When I tried to get him from his cage, it was a full attack. I told him no and backed away 3 feet from cage still in sight. I then got my wife to try and get him from the cage and he came out just fine. Then stepped up to my finger with no problem.
I then took him out for 1 on 1 time and he received scratches from me (he enjoys mine more than wife’s) for the first couple of minutes it was fine then again attacked my finger with no warning. I told him no and stopped scratching and left him perched on my knee. (one of his favourite spots to sit) I tried to repeat scratches and the exact same thing happened after a few minutes. I put him back in his cage and he bit me while I was putting him in there and then had a temper tantrum and banging his head on the cage for a few minutes.
He gets 12 hours of sleep a night, healthy diet, 6-8 hours of out of cage time daily. I am at a loss for what to do. I’m not sure if it is “hormone season,” or if we are doing something wrong? He has attacked my wife a few times but not as much as me.
