My GCC (1.5yrs, F) has suddenly become VERY aggressive with my family and I. She was most attached to me and just within the last couple weeks has attacked us, mostly me.
Not exaggerating, she is flighted and will actually swoop down to bite my ears and face without warning or being provoked that I know of. Just moments ago I was cleaning the counters and she caught me off guard, now I have a bloody lip and ear and she might be a little afraid because I had to grab her firmly just to detach her from my flesh.
I’m so heartbroken I want to cry.. I love her so much but I don’t know what to do.
A couple things have changed in the last month:
She has a bedtime now and a cage cover. She is in her cage and it gets covered at 8PM. She doesn’t seem to mind except for her not wanting to be put away at the start.
She is on a stricter diet. She gets zupreem pellets daily, and she WAS getting fruit daily but doing more research it seems she shouldn’t eat fruit that much. I started giving her less and trying to give her more veggies. We are in the stage of trying different veggies but so far no luck in getting her to eat them. I have a feeling she is hangry because she doesn’t seem to be eating many pellets and won’t touch any of the veggies.
We’ve started to be more strict when it comes to biting. We didn’t allow it to happen willingly before, but we would put her down and still let her roam. Now it’s one violent bite and she gets put back in the cage. We try again in 15-20 minutes, but it just seems to piss her off because she bites worse when we try to let her back out the second time.
I am desperate.. I feel so bad that she is in her cage more now because of these attacks, but she is terrorizing the house. She made my daughter bleed yesterday and me bleeding has become a daily thing too. She violently attacks our heads/faces.
Any advice for suddenly aggressive birds?
