My boss is known as the mad scientist by some top GCs. The reason being is because one he gets his hands on the design build drawing for say transit and infrastructure projects. He wants to make his own design changes, calling the engineer stupid and questioning the validity of design. Over complicates shit to the max, then turns around and wants to slip in a change order to GC. He makes his owns calculations and tries to submit his analysis of the design, mind you he is not the engineer or record. A direct conflict with the engineer. Out of all the times he has given his ideas out there, he usually hardly gets compensated for it. Half of his ideas work, and it usually costs us tons of money on the research and administrative side.
