Hello everyone, I got a couple questions for all my construction workers out there. 1. Do you enjoy what you do? If so, what is it that you enjoy about your job? 2. How is your work life balance? What time do you usually go in and leave the job? 3. What is a piece of advice you would give to someone who also wants to purse a career in your field? 4. If you had a chance to change to a different career would? If so what would you pursue? 5. How many days out of the week do you feel stress out? 6. Do you like the company you work for? If so what is it that you like about the company you work for? 7. What is your salary, if comfortable sharing 8. If you could give a piece of advice to your younger self what would it be and would you gonna to college instead? 9. What is one of the big regrets you have from working in this industry? 10. How often do you think about your work outside of job?
Thanks to all who have reply to this subreddit. I will forsure enjoy reading each and every single reply!
I love building things... Almost every male in my entire extended family is involved in some aspect of the construction industry. I think it's in my Norwegian blood.
I own my own business. Work life balance is all on me to maintain. Since covid I do my best to just work 8hr days with at least one three day weekend a month.
Don't waste money on cheap tools. Buy a used named brand tool over a new one from harbor freight. Also pick ONE battery platform and stick to it religiously. Don't be the guy who needs 3-4 different brand chargers to keep track of.
I switched to exterior construction after 10 years in an office. I would never switch back. I would rather sweat all summer and freeze all winter rather than be depressed year round in a temperature controlled office.
I've been on Wellbutrin and Adderall for a few years now. I don't think I can get stressed out...
I work for myself, with one employee. Sometimes I miss working with a big crew.
I think I clear $75-$100k most years... Definitely could make more if I wanted to, but I like my family time.
Only go into construction if you actually like building stuff and love to learn how to do new things.
Only regret is undervaluing my labor for the first few years... I left so much money on the table, just because I was scared to ask for more.
I'm always thinking about some sort of construction, even on the weekends I'm working on my own place with my wife...

I take Adderall because I have terrible ADHD. If anything I don't even need it for the physical part of my job, I just need it to focus on emails and paperwork.
