For reference I am a 19 year old union electrician apprentice and recently I have been stressing a lot about the possible adverse health effects dust inhalation can cause. I work in a commercial warehouse being built so its safe to say it can get dusty. I have been working for a relatively short amount of time (4 months), but I know that dust can cause permanent damage fast. Whenever I am drilling into concrete or in especially dusty areas like the offices I wear an N95 mask. I still think that I may have to wear a mask whenever I'm inside just to save myself from possible exposure. I am very health conscious so being teased for wearing a mask is much worth the permanent damage I could be doing to my lungs. This is my first construction job in the trade, but there has been absolutely no preventative measures for dust accumulation. There isn't a single vacuum drill attachment or a wet jet. The safety job site managers throw a god damn fit when us workers wear gloves that aren't the ones they provide because they are tight and make it hard to work, but they don't bat an eye when people are drilling into concrete dry. Could they really not know what things like silica can do to your lungs? Anyways I would like to know other more experienced construction workers thoughts.
