Post Body

I am a window washer, and supervisor at a small window washing company. This contractor hired my company to clean some windows on a construction site. It was originally supposed to get done by our lead technician who specializes in construction cleans. Guy works one day then bails, says the jobsite is a mess and unworkable, so naturally i got stuck in charge of it. As soon as we get there the guy is yelling at me and my crew that we need to sweep all the floors and throw garbage away before we start. I call my boss and tell him to add all this extra work to the bill, boss says he will. I mention that I don't like the guys attitude but my boss says just deal with it so I do. We sweep and mop then start cleaning windows. Next day we come and we continue cleaning. We go to lunch and come back. We start cleaning again. Contractor guy comes up to us and starts yelling about how the whole job site is a mess and we need to get to work on scrubbing floors and base boards and dusting the ceilings. Dude is seriously trying to gaslight us into doing a bunch of free work and is actually upset that we didn't come with our own brooms and mops. WE ARE A FUCKING WINDOW CLEANING COMPANY. WE ARE NOT JANITORS. WE ARE NOT GENERAL LABORERS. WE ARE WINDOW CLEANERS. Needless to say, I told the crew to pack it up and leave. But not until after a lengthy exchange on the phone with my boss about what we are and aren't being paid for.

I used to do general labor and i've done plenty of construction work in my day and dealt with plenty of assholes, but never in my life have I ever met such a piece of shit as this guy. The fucking audacity! Is it common for people in this industry to bully their way into getting free work done? Has anyone else experience this? Is there a regulatory authority I can call about this?

Also, I still plan on finishing the job. Deadline is Monday. What are some things I could do to fuck this guy over without causing a ruckus? I really want to stall as much as possible so he misses his deadline.

UPDATE: My boss called the guy's boss and got it sorted out rather quickly. We are cleaning windows and nothing else. I also brought my copy of the contract today which I presented to him and read aloud while he sat in his truck looking defeated. I got the guys full name and his company's name as well. Not gonna dox him but I will be sharing the story with all my old construction buddies and warning them to avoid the guy and his company. I will also be leaving negative reviews wherever possible๐Ÿ‘

I also heard the dude complaining about us to his boss, still trying to blame me for the whole site not being finished I just shot him a dirty look. He won't speak to me or look at me because he knows if he keeps up, we're gonna walk out again ๐Ÿ˜
