Planning a welcome puzzle

Hey all,

I just found this group and cannot even tell you how much I love it already. I love a good treasure hunt!

I’m in charge of planning a welcome back for a population of about 400 college students. The purpose is to just create some affinity, meet new people, and have fun. It is optional, though I anticipate a decent turnout because there’s a coveted prize at the end for all participants. It will end with each participant getting a small prize, and having their team name announced at halftime of a game.

I’m planning to have them register, and put them in random teams to help them meet new people.

It doesn’t need to be a giant event that takes a lot of time…but I would love to incorporate social media tags into the game.

I’m thinking maybe they have a clue that leads them to a clue hidden in a book and taking a picture with a librarian.

Maybe a clue leading them to take their photo with the president…

Any cheap sort of puzzles I could buy in bulk to hand them something to kick it off? I don’t have a ton of money to spend here…

I also have only about three weeks left to plan it.

I’d love any and all ideas or feedback! Thank you!
