Couple of noob questions

Hi guys I'm fairly new and I've got a few questions id like to ask this wonderful community:
I started playing longbow and felt it..well it wasn't great for me, and then I had a play with dual blades which I find fun I'm debating getting maul so I can help clear units a bit better is it worth it for that?
What units are decent? I rushed for longbows and find them amazing, and I got men at arms and they are very nice, but are there any others you would recommend?
