Returning plates on sold vehicle

I just sold my car today. I canceled my registration online but theres no information about how to return the plates. The DMV wasnt allowing plate returns due to covid, has that changed? I just wanna make sure that I dont get charged for anything because I still have them.
I scrapped the vehicle if you must know. Brought it to Chuck and Eddies in Southington.
