Hey all,

Installing a bolt on basketball goal for my kids and looking for some recommendations. The instructions recommend a 36” deep x 16” wide hole that’s flared at the bottom.

Used a bobcat auger but hit a granite boulder at 25” deep. The hole ended up being about 24” in diameter also.

I was thinking about drilling 3 3/4”x10” holes into the granite at an outward angle, epoxying rebar into the holes meeting in the middle, then pouring the concrete onto that while following the rest of the instructions for the anchor.

Just wondering if anyone sees any issue with that approach or can recommend a better way or additional steps I should add onto my existing plans for maximum stability.

Thanks!

Is that thin metal or wood to retain the concrete? It would help to see a pic, but if you have a nice slump you can mound up and shape the concrete beneath the 2x4 form then carefully fill the form. Also consider if a bigfoot basewould work.

Yep, epoxy the rebar in first before getting it wet. Are you just pouring against the dirt or do you have forms? Have a pic?

Haha, nice, mines 48" up in the Catskills... If you don't have to worry about frost then that's a lot better.

Do you have a power washer? It would blast off the mud the fastest with the least amount of water. Don't sweat getting it perfectly clean, just make sure it doesn't have a thin layer of clay or rock dust from your drill.

The dirt and rock can be wet, just avoid standing water.

What's your climate? Do you know your area's frost depth?

Sure thing! Also, you will want a good clean bond to the granite so there isn't water getting between, do your best to clean off the face of the granite with a hose or pressure washer.

Install the rebar angled into the granite as you described, but bend them up to run vertical ending 2-3" below the top surface.
