Hired a finisher to do my 10x30 slab while I was away for a couple days. Good reputation from some guys in construction around town. My brother went around to pay him the next day before I had a chance to look at the slab (this was our mistake). I got the the property and inspected the slab. It was terrible. Contractor is being mostly unresponsive with the odd reply that doesnât make sense. I am wondering what my options are to get the polished finish I was looking for.
Thanks
You canât polish a floor without mechanically grinding and chemically treating the floor. Requires a 10-12 step process using diamond segments in series starting typically at 30grit working your way up to at least 400 grit for a Honed finish. Example- Costco floors are a Polished floor that is 400grit finish.
No power trowel will make a difference unless itâs outfitted with Husqavarnaâs power trowel diamond segment tooling.
I polish concrete daily.
Burning is what you see typically see at Walmart stores. The finishers do that with a power trowels by crossing back and forth over the slab many more times then you would normally as it cures but on the same day it is poured.
The term burnishing can be confusing because we also use machines call âburnishersâ that people use to create a shine typically itâs on vct tiles or on concrete after a sealer is applied or as a maintenance step to increase the shine of polished concrete.
Difference is Polish Concrete will take place typically at least 30 days after placement of the concrete. Itâs like putting a rock in a tumbler; goes in as a rock, gets run thru multiple grit steps and becomes a gem weeks later when you pull it out. The shine comes from grinding with multiple grit levels sometimes up to 3000grit for a showroom floor.
We are in the Pacific NW and typically do a 12step process for $7-$10/sqft

Totally agree. Went to fix a clients floor in a street of dreams house told me they paid 55k for the floors to be polished(5500sqft) which is going rate in my market however the floor was received was a grind and wax (7-10k value)They had no clue; just couldnât figure out why they leave foot prints everywhere they walk. Just donât know what they donât know is very true.
