Calling Skaters and Masons, after advice after building bank/ramp

Post Body

Hello, Over the last few weeks I have been trying to convert a section of my back garden into a little skate spot. I live in a little village and there is now spots around here, and I don’t want to have to travel all the time to go skating as I try to skate everyday, being able to do that at home would make that so much easier!

So I had a tidy up, and decided to make a ramp/bank transition with a sloppy grind/slide part as well. All made sense and it was a great place to get rid of a load of tiles and broken block I had making the place look untidy.

Granted, didn’t have a cement mixer, so did most of it by hand in a 14L bucket haha (whisking a omelette after make me feel like I super hero!)

Mostly used a mix of 2 sharp sand, 2 building sand and 1 cement,

Now, in this time, we have had some awful rain, which has been frustrating as it slowed down the drying process.

Now, I have found the finish (predictably considering my racket approach haha) is not a particularly good skate surface. Its rough and just kills any speed and pretty much makes the whole thing unskateable. I feel like the rain has washed away a lot of the finer building sand from the surface and have left it uneven and dusty.

Now, this has left me feeling a bit silly as it’s not nearly as useable as hoped, however, I’m optimistic that I can find a reasonable solution, especially with the help of you wonderful people on the interweb!

So, what could I used to go over the surface that will leave it smooth even to skate, but strong enough not to crack as it can’t be very thick. Ideally I would cement again, but I think the layer would be way too thin and crack.

I am also going to try bigger and softer wheels in the mean time, however I hope this isn’t the final solution as I have just changed over to harder wheels to learn more tricks etc

Any help really appreciate:)
