blocks don't fall apart when deleting

When I delete a block, it just poofs and disappears. But in all the videos I've seen, they fall apart when you delete them. How do I get mine to fall apart? I tried turning graphics up to see if it that was the problem, but it didn't change anything. And i don't see an option for it either
