This question I ask for myself but it may be interesting/useful for others like me.
I bolded the question if you wanna skip context.
Basically, I’m a support flex player.
In this competitive scene of OW2, it feels very terrible to try and play a multitude of heroes.
Currently since OW2 dropped I’ve pretty much exclusively play support heroes.
Those two things correlate because in OW1 I LOVED playing different heroes in comp. I liked switching. Getting decent or better and better. I’ve developed a lot of hours so much so that I found it funny that a comment I got on my career profile from a teammate said the hours played and colored bars looked like a bouquet of flowers lol.
However, as you can imagine despite my hours played on supports and tank I’m more of a support specialist than a specific hero specialist. In other words, Jack of all trades master of none so to speak. I do have heroes I’m VERY proficient in. Also heroes I’m worse at BUT my worst performance I would say I’m average on any support at least.
I was plat or diamond in Ow1. In OW2 I’m currently just gold. However I get this feeling if I didn’t switch to heroes I’m average on I could go much higher. I mainly switch because I’m trying to help my team. Something that usually worked out in Ow1 I felt. Playing so many heroes meant I never got bored.
However competitive doesn’t seem to reward that as much. That’s just my gut feeling. Plus I’ve been told the match quality is vastly different and isn’t just players saying that apparently.
So I feel uncertain at how I should really approach comp.
Do I switch heroes based on my teams and enemy teams hero picks and help counter or do I focus on JUST heroes I’m very proficient even if they may not make sense sometimes with the map, team comp, and enemy comp etc?
This is my main question given the above context.
For further context, I’ve stuck with heroes very proficient with and I’ve found my matches tend to go very much in my favor. Very very much in fact. Like I don’t belong at that rank on that hero. Which feels absurd saying that cuz this is a team game. It’s not just my win but my team’s.
