So currently the matchmaking system in competitive takes into account your SR/MMR , group stacks and a few other factors when queuing into a game. I feel one critical variable is missing.
That variable is roles. I know people have suggested role select & a guild-type system, but I have another idea that I think could be even simpler: role prioritization.
The system needs to make sure that a team is well balanced by looking at everyone’s top 3 most played heroes in the last 3 months, and prioritize that even slightly above rank matching.
Sounds crazy? I think playing with someone within 200SR of your rank is fine if the whole team is comfortable in their role, but what good does it do if we’re all within 30SR of each other but have 6dps mains in a game?
Now, this won’t always work perfectly (because of 4-stacking dps etc), but at least this would bring us a step closer to having matches where no one feels forced to play roles they are not comfortable in.
It feels like it’d be a fairly easy thing to implement, and the only drawback could be longer queue times, but that could be offset by slightly easing up the rank-matching differential I spoke of earlier.
Thoughts?
