Hello, subreddit. I think you might be the right ones to help me.
I've played fh for a while but I've now hit a brick wall. I have noticed that there's something stopping me from getting better, and that is I cannot reliably block/dodge (let alone parry) light attacks (or similarly timed moves). I play on keyboard and mouse. Now, I'm not new to games that require fast reflexes; I'm of course not the best fh player around, but I've been gaming for a very long time and I don't think my reaction speed is the issue. I've taken reaction speed tests and I have a reaction speed around 220-230ms, sometimes lower. I couldn't find a test that only involved mouse flicking so I did the standard one that registers mouse clicking, but even then if a light attack is 400-500ms I should be able to consistently block them, at least. I get feint-baited as much as anyone, which means in those cases I'm reacting even too fast. I've even tried recording myself: I do move my hand on time when I see the red arrow, but apparently most of the time I'm on the wrong guard or too late? Because the light hits. I've found no difference between reflex guard heroes or static. I've practiced vs simple lvl1 bots set to only light attacks, and even in these simplified conditions I cannot block 100% of lights. My fps are always 60, so that's not the problem.
Also, what happens in the video? My guard is up but it goes black and the attack hits. With a static guard hero, your guard never just goes black, it switches to a different white zone. Even if you go from top to neutral, the guard stays top and white. I've tried adjusting mouse guard sensitivity, but that doesn't seem to do much.
Eventually, my gameplay becomes just playing around lights, predicting them or tanking them, or going as offensive as I can to prevent taking too many lights. Either way, it's not a lot of fun. Anything the competitive scene can suggest me (game settings, adjustments, tests...) other than the ritual get good? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I'm not sure if you can see the video.
