Hey folks.
So my playgroup has kind of gone bonkers with their competitiveness over the last few months and I've been struggling to keep up. I prefer it to keep it a little more casual than just cutthroat, but seeing as I don't really feel like finding new friends I had to join or die (well, lose).
So I went to the Google's and found myself an interesting commander, namely Prossh, Skyraider of Kher. So I grabbed a decklist that seemed interesting (namely the 'Prossh, Army in a can' list), proxied it up and went at it.
It felt too slow, considering I'm fighting a Brago Stax deck with heavy artifact ramp and a Gitrog toad deck tuned to the recent huge primer posted here. So I went the route I felt most comfortable with, and looked into adding an elf-suite to hopefully speed it up. And it's getting along a bit, though I still feel I miss that one turn. Plus being a three card combo often means I get Prossh out on curve, but have to wait a turn to Foodchain, and hope/tutor beforehand for a draw effect, or a win-con.
Now I must be missing something here, but most primers I can find are 2015 or older, and all aren't that well adjuted for the Vancouver mulligan.
I have some cards I have my doubt about, because they feel a bit redundant.
- Sadistic Hypnotist - I know hand attack is good, but at the time I have my Prossh combo online, does it really matter?
- Coalition Relic - I'm sure there are better rocks to play?
- Craterhoof Behemoth - I love big Hoof, but he's probably too slow?
- Reap and Sow - It gets me my colours or my Cradle, but it's also 4 mana. I've not yet been happy to see it.
- Brutalizer Exarch - It can solve a problem, or find a solution, but it's also so slow... But then again with Food Chain there it's cheap. I'd like to hear opinions. Birthing Pod - Is it just too slow?
- Earthcraft - With my current build I play 4 basics, I'd have to fetch for one, while having this in play to make it worth it.
There are also some cards I'm considering:
- Mass Hysteria - I know it's symetrical, but Food Chaining Prossh for infinite tokens but having no ETB triggers means I can go infinite for no point. MH allows me to turn those tokens into 1/ 0 on the turn they're made by swinging with the Dragon.
Budgetwise, I'm not a cheapskate. I already procured the Bayou, had a Cradle, the entire collection of fetches, etc. So anything around say €50-75 I can afford in the near future. My playgroup isn't nagging me about the playtest cards, so throw me your suggestions, but things like an Imperial Seal are probably not in my near future.
So cEDH, I hope you have some insights...
