[COH1] How do I win as axis?

I have played this game for years and I just picked it up again. No matter how fast I try and build up units and rush capture points, allies seem to have way more units and eventually I get squashed. I've tried multiple builds and doctrines none of them work. British and allies seem way stronger, so I am guessing axis got nerfed hard or allies got buffed hard while I was not playing.
