This commercial advertises the show being on weeknights at 8:00 and 8:30. The show itself is good, even hilarious at times. The only intelligent person in the whole town is the Sheriff, Andy Taylor, and he's gracious and easy going despite it all, though it's difficult to resist temptation and not razz Barney. The guy takes himself way too seriously sometimes. Lighten up, Francis. Am I right? But I digress. To the annoying AF commercial:
I can't quite put my finger on why I loathe this commercial. It shows a scene from the show in a frame with the theme played on accordion and a narrator saying how great of a town Mayberry is or something as agreeable. Fine. Then for about three seconds the frame gets stylized to almost an ink drawing, and an obnoxious a capella "It's the place to be!" or "Quality service!" or something else similarly non sequitur and in your face a la radio commercial is sung, all while the accordion is still playing the theme to the show. This goes on a few more times throughout the commercial.
I don't know what the hell they're trying to accomplish or mimic. The style of jamming such two different styles together is like nails on a chalkboard, and all they have accomplished with me is to piss me off. This is quite the accomplishment, as I'm usually not angry while I'm still confused.
