Today, my SIM card stopped working for no apparent reason. I called support, first. It took SO long and SO many hoops to get a human on the other end. (I hung up when I heard an Indian accent. Chances are, they won't be able to help me, anyway.) So, I jumped in my car and drove over to the nearest Xfinity store. Once I got to see a sales rep, I asked her if she'd ever heard of the SIM swapping scam. She just stared at me blankly and said no. I am appalled that Xfinity employees don't know about this (or claim not to). People have lost THOUSANDS of dollars because of this scam. Why doesn't Xfinity have protections against SIM swapping? Why is a stranger allowed to report a lost phone and then, with no photo identification or other verification, is allowed to get a new e-SIM card? If I ever lose money because of this loophole in Xfinity's security, I would be seeking legal counsel and suing Xfinity for my losses. Or better yet, maybe I'll just go to a different carrier, one that keeps up with the latest security threats.
