The other day I came home from work and found that my Wifi router had the name changed and the password changed.
At first I thought it was my girlfriend's sister doing it to pull a prank, or because something happened. Nope. The weird thing was that the new wifi was renamed after my girlfriend's mom's Dog.
It turns out, my girlfriend's sister who lives part time with her mom, and part time with us - logged into Comcast on our AppleTV to watch some SyFy channel shows.
Comcast took this as precedence to update the firmware on my wifi router. (I pay for the modem but the router is mine) In addition to changing the wifi name and password, they also created a walled garden where all devices needed to be registered to her mom's account.
I tried a factory reset, but this did nothing. Luckily, I had another better 2.4/5Ghz Asus modem which I was able to swap in and use instead. Tonight I'm going to add another network switch and disable Telnet.
It was just extremely infuriating to have my own property bricked by Comcast. If you own a NETGEAR - Wireless-N router, take precautions and safeguard yourself.
