I just adopted a doodle mix. SUCH a sweet boy! He was raised in a hoarding situation where there were 29 adults and 15 pups in a TRAILER in NC. He’s surprisingly well behaved, though… does GREAT on a leash, has already learned to sit, doesn’t bark at anyone and he loves the water! I’m doing my best to get him acclimated, but slow and steady wins the race.
He was given a “haircut” at the shelter where he was adopted from. His hair was so matted that they did the best they could. I cut a couple of dreads from behind his ears and trimmed his booty to keep it from getting messy from #2’s. I’ve looked online but I can only find a couple of services that are booked. This doggo needs it bad! He can’t see unless I give him a top-knot. I have trimmed him as best I could and we have been getting him acclimated to the bath. Yesterday we washed his feet just because they were so stinky from him being in the shelter (shelter was not a bad, messy shelter, but he just needed it). I’m wondering if anyone knows of a service that will come to the home so I don’t have to traumatize him by going to a groomer. He is sketchy about going into any establishment, even though he walks well. I am would be fine with waiting- he doesn’t smell or anything, but he could use a bath just to have a re-start and he needs to be trimmed. Nothing fancy, just enough so he isn’t struggling to see. I can help with the bathing process in my bathtub, or I can bathe him before… again- he does not smell and no dreading, but I just want this good boy to be comfortable!
If there are no services that you can think of, I will take any suggestions on how to go about this. I just don’t want to traumatize this handsome man anymore.
