What’s the difference I’m picking up on between Prismacolor and other brands?
Post Body

I used Prismacolor Premiere colored pencils quite a bit when I was younger, and bought a new set recently as I was getting interested in using colored pencils again. I really wasn’t enjoying them, but I bought a few pencils from other brands on a whim, and I like them SO MUCH BETTER. My favorite pencils so far have been Derwent Artists and Faber-Castell Polychromos. I know part of it is that I just don’t like how saturated the Prismacolors are, but I’ve noticed that I have much more trouble getting smooth, consistent coverage when I want a light layer. They feel overly waxy and patchy to me.

I’m wondering, is there a specific difference in the makeup of Prismacolors and the brands I mentioned liking? I’d just like to know what the difference is so I can make better choices about what pencils to try in the future, and which ones I may want to avoid.
