I need a little guidance in choosing my supplies. I love my prismas def want the full set someday soon. Love the farber lead pencils
Those are unsustainable though. I need to find sets that I can practice with and use as backgrounds as I learn to give my coloring depth. Ideally I'd like to have a ton of colors like 120/ set. I'd love to have low priced responsible quality and then higher quality sets for all my chosen mediums.
I'm looking for lead and also wax colorled pencils. I don't mean both I mean just lead like my farbers(I bought about 8 open Stock to try out the black ones, expensive af) and just wax like the prismas. I the artist loft, Michaels house brand and they were awful. I couldn't even get them halfway towards sharp( prisma 2 shape sharpener).
Moving to markers on that subject I didn't hate the artist loft dual tips. I did at first but they're growing on me. I like the fine tip and the big is ok. They are really wet, hard to control the bleed, don't blend and layering sucks too. I'm not convinced I really like markers a whole lot, a little, they look great and it's quick which is very very nice for me. I also have a few tombrow dual tips I bought open stock to test. I love the brush tip end but not the other end. I do know I like alcohol based over water.
I got lucky and my mom found a few of my little brothers 20 year old prisma water color pencils. I know I like those a lot for sure.
I'd definitely like to give pastels a shot. Like most everything else I'll try a few open Stock first probably nice ones but want both nice and mids.
I've got quite a bit of gel pens. Mostly dollar store. Even those are fun and look pretty good... when they don't have any of the common issues which happen a bit more than with my gellyrolls. I like those a lot
So with all that said, I'd like recommendations and guidance towards the cheap but still quality end of the spectrum. I don't need those to be lightfast. I'd like enough pigment to be easily seen without a dozen layers, three or four is ok. I'm not looking for the lead or markers to really pop, I'm looking to get that from embellishments with the wax and such. It's cool if they do pop though.
Please leave out the higher end expensive stuff (if you feel you really need to say something works specifically with another then tell me). I just don't want to be inundated with info.
