Moving there soon - What's the film(making) scene like?

I'm a filmmaker from Birmingham, AL, and I'm wanting to know if there are any film societies, festivals, etc. out there. Here, we have the Sidewalk Film Festival, several groups, etc.
Are there any comparable organizations or "stuff" to do like this?
