“Leashed” loose dog group at park, why didn’t any of you help or check on the woman involved in the incident today?

Post Body

Witnessed a really unfortunate incident today and just can’t wrap my head around how multiple dog owners did nothing.

At the park near my home there is a loop with a paved sidewalk going around and a large spacious grassy area in the middle.

Today in the grassy area were about 6 owners and their dogs, maybe of equal amount.

A women was walking her 2 (looked like German Shepard’s) larger dogs around the loop. Out of nowhere a small dog from the grassy center group is running full blast toward them.

All the while the owner of this dog and the others just watched and didn’t really seem as if it was a big deal. Not a single one walked or more appropriately RAN over. Their “action” consisted of calling the dog over to which it was clearly not responding.

Meanwhile, the owner of the larger leashed dogs is trying to separate the 3 dogs while (holding on to her two). She was SO struggling and another person walking the loop started to run over and help , calling for the smaller dog - they kept some distance (don’t blame them that’s why I wasn’t getting involved with a possible dog fight ensuing). The small dog eventually heads towards the stranger that tried to intervene at a distance, but passes them and heads back to the group.

It was hard to make out what exactly happened as it all happened so fast. From the looks of it no one/ dog was hurt but I don’t know for sure as the owner of the 2 larger dogs seemed to keep looking at her hand and even stopped in her tracks and kinda sat probably to process what happened.

It was really scary to watch I couldn’t imagine being involved.

The group had their dog(s) “leashed” so technically they aren’t breaking rules. But none of the dogs were actually being held and still roaming free. And clearly not trained enough to not run after and up to dogs 4 times its size.

What I don’t understand the most is, how the person who was doing the right thing was basically left to figure out a very scary, dangerous mess she didn’t cause, not a single one of the other owners/ people from the group came over at all or even walked in that direction. How could you have such little concern?! How could you not even walk over to make sure she was OK when you saw her resting after it all?

Just because you “know your dog” and they are harmless does not mean that dangerous situations won’t still occur.

I honestly feel like the woman was bit due to her behavior after, how she was holding and looking at her hand. She didn’t go over to the group, before I left so not sure what happened after. It looked like the stranger that helped asked her something as she walked by and the woman kind out her hand up like she’s ok.

And as I was leaving another dog was running off from the group.

I frequent this park and I want to be comfortable, not worried a “leashed” loose dog is going to cause any other ruckus.

And maybe I’m paranoid because I had a dog almost attack me once while I was sitting at the table at a different park. It was intense and scary.

And to the woman, I am sorry I didn’t help more. I am sorry the other owners didn’t help more. And I hope you and the dogs are ok.

As a runner, I hate dog owners that don't leash their dog in public places. I do not give a shit if you "know" your dog... I don't fucking know your dog, and your dog sure as hell doesn't know me! I've lost count to how many dogs that "would never hurt anyone" came running after me because they're just being a dog. Leash your damn fur babies... always! Unless you're in a dog park, obviously.
