[July 7th, 1953]
Immediately following the establishment of the State of Zion, Mapai began to work to enfranchise the now somewhat vast Arab population that resided within their borders. While the majority of parties in the Zionite left had already begun to allow membership of Arabs following the establishment of the State of Palestine, Mapai stood as an exception. Doubling down on this policy following the succession from Palestine to Zion, the leadership of Mapai would create a small variety of satellite parties to encompass different areas of the State of Zion and encourage Arab 'participation' in the political process. Though the binational project had failed, Golda Meir and the rest of Mapai leadership were eager to prove to the world that the Jew and Arab were capable of working together - but, perhaps under specific circumstances. Arab 'participation' would be secured in the form of special lists drawn up before each election on the basis of residence and religious sect from among the party's hangers on. The party machine would undertake financial and influential support of these lists, thus "freeing" then from having to set up their own political apparatus. The allegiance of the successful candidates to the party and their support for the party's position would thus be guaranteed.
To this end, the following List parties would be established;
Agriculture and Development focused on central Zion
Progress and Work focused mostly on urban centers outside of the West Bank
Democratic List of Western Hebron
Democratic List of Nablus
Democratic List of Ramallah
Democratic List of Jenin
Democratic List of Nablus
The General Zionists following in the lead of Mapai establish a single Arab List party called, creatively, "Arab List - the Centre".
Party Changes
On the 5th of July 1953, the Palestine Communist Party (PCP) [OOC: Maki never would have changed their name to Maki ITTL so this is a retcon] changes their name to Palestinian Communist Party. As one of few parties that opens membership to both Jews and Arabs, they saw it fit to keep their demonym "Palestinian" applying to all residents of Palestine. However, conflict within the PCP would soon emerge. Following the August 1953 elections, a split formed between the largely Jewish and Zionist faction of the PCP led by Shmuel Mikunis and the largely Arab faction which had grown increasingly anti-Zionist as the Arab-Palestinian War progressed, ultimately ended, and found the State of Palestine replaced by that of Zion.
On August 30th 1953, the pro-Arab/pro-Soviet faction broke with the PCP to form a party which they named Rakah. Prominent politicians such as Emile Habibi, Tawfik Toubi, and Meir Vilner. Rakah has sent communication to Moscow, requesting to be recognized as the only true Communist party of Palestine in the face of disagreements with the Zionists.
So much for the tolerant left.
On the 1st of September 1953, in the immediate wake of the PCP/Rakah split, Mapam fractures once more. Having already had an anti-Soviet faction split and form the Ahdut HaAvoda earlier in the year, their failure in the August election would prove to be the death knell of Mapam. Torn on the issue of allowing Arabs party membership, the party disbands. Around 75% of their membership flocks to the now anti-Soviet, pro-Jew PCP while the remaining 25% joins their former comrades in Ahdut HaAvoda, and form a left faction of that party.
On the 16th of July 1953, Mizrachi led by Yosef Burg and Hapoel HaMizrachi led by Haim-Moshe Shapira - two religious parties splintered from the breakup of the United Religious Movement - merge into one party called the National Religious Front.
