After years of preparation and work, April 5th of 1953 will mark the true beginning of the Portuguese nuclear program. A gas cyclotron, so long in the making, has now come to fruition and has begun testing in Lisbon. With initial tests to be in very small quantities throughout the summer, the program will ramp up in the winter and culminate in our first live research reactor in 1954, which will be a new era in Portuguese history, and reintroduce our once great name onto the global stage, as well as Spain's. Complete cooperation will continue and the rector will be shared between the 2 countries, as will power produced from future reactors. For now, though, research continues and the knowledge to be gained from it grows by the day.
