"El Presidente, our advisors have crossed the border into Haiti. Here are the..."
Rafael Trujillo looked up from his newspaper and smiled, taking a large sip from a glass of Cognac.
"Lieutenant it is far too beautiful of a day to even think about that. Please, take a seat and have a drink with me."
The soldier stood uncomfortably but did not dare to refuse his President. Trujillo poured a glass of Cognac for the Lieutenant and pushed it towards him.
"How is your family, I heard your mother is in hospital. Your father can't drive as the car has broken down."
The soldier looked at him in panic, to which the President laughed heartily.
"Do not worry I am only making conversation. Please, relax."
"Of course El Presidente."
"Rafael, call me Rafael."
"Yes El Pre.. Rafael."
"I heard your brother has dropped out of the academy, why is that?" the President asked while taking a sip of his drink.
"He, uh, went back to the family farm."
"Interesting. See I heard that he's fled into the jungle and is now living out his life as a guerrilla."
The soldier gulped and set down his drink, "I do not know El Presi.."
"Rafael."
The soldier cleared his throat and spoke again, "I do not know Rafael, that information is new to me."
"So my personal intelligence officer does not even know the comings and goings of his own blood?"
"I, uh, guess not."
The President looked at the soldier deeply before finishing his glass and standing up, patting his legs as he did.
"Well that will be all, you can leave the documents on the desk."
The soldier stood up quickly and saluted before dropping off the papers then powerwalking to the door. Before he left the President called out to him.
"Lieutenant, say hello to your brother for me."
The soldier looked at him confused before walking out. Trujillo smiled and walked back to his desk, pouring another glass of Cognac and sitting back on his leather chair. As he sipped he picked up the phone next to him, "Take our lying Lieutenant to the cells, I think it's time for a family reunion." Trujillo hung up the phone and leaned back in his chair smiling, before lighting up a cigar and opening his newspaper once again.
I am claiming the Dominican Republic! I will be upholding Trujillo's Junta and ensuring he steals as much money from the government as possible. I will be taking an anti-communist stance and will be aligning heavily with the United States.
