Red Tide? Perhaps...

Elections within Czechoslovakia were held on 26 May, but results of this election came out rather skewered, most of which the results shocked even the Communists themselves. The Communist Party did break through the mold, however as they won an achievement no Czechoslovak parliament ever had before - they had won more than 25% of the vote. With voter turnout higher than ever before as well with 94.3% of the country participating, the results determined the future of Czechoslovakia from now until the end.

What could have won the Communist Party was a break-away and a denouncement by Catholic leaders within the country, although this was decried as a propaganda and power move by Leftists, it still held quite the influence but it wasn't as much as needed to completely deplatform the Communists. However, what hurt their opposition was attempting to follow the Communist Party's platform and emulate land-reform and redistribution by "private citizens", essentially just militias of opposing parties trying to beat the Reds to the punch.

Newspapers and other agencies pumped out counter propaganda left and right with most people simply stuck in the sidelines. However, it still left an affect in the region that lost the Communist a larger advantage. Regardless, it was a free and fair election without too large of interference.

Despite this, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and Slovakia have polled far higher in opinion polls than any other party.
