With the Christian Lebanese firmly in control of at least one portion of Lebanon, it is time to start reconnecting to the predominantly-Christian Lebanese diaspora numbering in the millions. Mostly living in the Americas, it has retained strong ties between its own members and with Lebanon, creating networks of mutual support. With Lebanon increasing in cultural similarity with the diaspora, even more can be done to cement this network and increase its benefits.
One initiative being started is "Birthright Lebanon". Its stated mission is to reconnect Lebanese youth in foreign countries with their ancestral homeland. Implicitly, the goal is to increase interaction between the diaspora and Lebanon and perhaps spur some return investment or even immigration, with the Lebanese diaspora enjoying broad success in fields of business and outnumbering the domestic Lebanese population.
This initiative, with main offices in America, Brazil, Argentina, France, and Venezuela, will sponsor two month service trips to Lebanon at no cost to the participant. They will be flown via a partnership with Middle East Airlines to Lebanon. On weekends, they will enjoy excursions to cultural sights, local restaurants, ski resorts, and other attractions of Lebanon. On weekdays, they will volunteer their time towards local community causes, providing what expertise they have in foreign language or otherwise to local businesses and donating time towards soup kitchens, infrastructure repair, and more. It will be billed as a great service adventure akin to the Peace Corps, but with a cultural reconnection angle and set in a prime tourist location. Eligibility will be based on Lebanese blood for ages 16-30, with the determining factor in the case of scarcity being existing expertise in any field.
