The two Richelieu class battleships are getting old, and as they have been in disuse for ~5 years a decision must be made regarding their fates. France has deemed it too expensive to keep both battleships extant, and thusly the older of the pair, Richelieu, will be sold to the breakers.

Jean Bart, on the other hand, will be retained. The aircraft hangar and catapults will be removed and replaced by missiles and missile systems. The 380mm guns will, for now, be retained. The technology used will be the new Malafon ASW weapons, 2 launchers will be installed on the ship. As well as this, a helicopter pad will be installed on the lower turret for more ASW capabilities. Finally, it has been announced that France will build their own AAW weapon with radar and specifications to be named, but that when introduced will be added onto new French destroyers and the Jean Bart.
