Post Body

Rhodesian defense officials have identified the FV601 Saladin as a prime candidate for defense procurement for the Armoured Corps. Armored cars are seen as sufficient to forming the hardest part of our ground-based firepower for now, as tank battles with near-peer adversaries are not foreseen in the mid-term future, but they still provide sufficient protection against hand-held anti tank devices and mines in an anti-guerilla context.

Given that it is projected to start production next year, the CAF will contact Alvis and see if a special variant with two subvariants can be produced specifically adapted for African tropical conditions normal for the general geographic area of the CAF. This would would be called the "Mwene" Armoured Car, at least in Rhodesian use, after the title of the King of the great civilization of the Mutapa. Ideally, this would reduce breakdowns and equipment errors as well as increase crew comfort. In general, this would incorporate tropicalized components as well as improved Air Conditioning to deal with moisture and heat.

The first subvariant would include the L5A1 gun and 2 machine guns standard with most Saladins.

The second will be a special flamethrower variant, with a Crocodile-style modernized flamethrower replacing the main turret but retaining a single co-axial machine gun. We project that this would be quite useful for clearing swaths of countryside with enemy infantry presence and also a heavy morale depressant for the caliber of untrained soldier that would be likely to oppose us. This special variant will be called the "Mutota" in honor of the first Mwene of the Mutapa. These would be specialized vehicles attached at a higher level to units in the Armoured Corps, called in when prudent.

The CAF will put in a preliminary order for 36 Mwene and 12 Mutopa upon agreement of Alvis and the British government, with delivery times to be determined. The Armoured Corps will be expanded to 1000 men to man, maintain, and escort these vehicles.
