A series of troop transports sailed in from the south towards the port of Colombo, escorted by a pair of frigates that had left the same port earlier in the day. By sunrise, the ships began disembarking their many passengers: the 6th Airborne Division, until recently based in Singapore, had arrived. Disguised among the arriving Airborne troops are the Royal Marines of No. 45 Commando, arriving from Malaya.

The Airborne troops would immediately set about relieving the beleaguered garrison forces and police in conjunction with the 2nd Infantry Division, based in the north of Ceylon as a deterrent to Indian invasion of the island for the duration of the Hyderabad Crisis.

For the time being, the Royal Navy would be patrolling the waters around Ceylon and turning back any ships flagged under a communist nation, or flagged under the Indians with whom there had been struggle over Hyderabad. Cargos would be searched intensely, with the express purpose of preventing weapons, ammunition, explosives, or parts for any of the preceding contraband classes from entering the colony.

Royal Air Force stations would be placed under 24-hour guard to prevent sabotage. Rapid response battalions would be created under the 2nd Infantry Division to respond to flare-ups of fighting around the island, with orders not to fire until fired upon. A curfew would be put into effect, from sunset to sunrise. Those cleared by the Ceylonese government would be granted papers to operate without concern for the curfew. Checkpoints on all major roads would be established by the Infantry, with orders to search any lorry's cargo for the same types of contraband as described above.

Importantly, negotiations with the legitimate Ceylonese government would continue uninterrupted by these communist agitators. The business of government would continue!
