Federal Ministry of Finance - November 19th, 1948
The conglomerate Fokker-SABCA, in cooperation with the Belgian Armed Forces, has reached out to the Scandinavian Defense Union in regards to cooperation in aerospace development for the foreseeable future. "We believe that each of our countries can bring valuable expertise in the pursuit of the collective defense of Scandinavia and Western Europe," the communique stated. Also pointed out was recent progress in jet technology in both regions, with the prototypes of the Fokker-SABCA F26 jet airliner expected to fly next year, as well as the recent development of the Saab 29 jet fighter. "We believe that additional cooperation on the F26 will reap dividends for all involved, with its potential to be the first jet airliner in service in the world."
With regards to the form of such a cooperative agreement, the letter proposed an exchange of information and specialists, as well as a supply network of aerospace technology. The Belgian Fokker-SABCA already has a steady supply of Rolls-Royce Nene engines for use in its F26 airliner, and countries in the SDU already have license production for Rolls-Royce engines set up.
