Orders had arrived from the top brass. There were rumors that were only spoken in the most hushed circles, that a man who had been groomed by Stalin as proof of the Soviet Union's commitment to the proletariat was in fact a fraud. Of course, these were only rumors and for a man of such high influence it was very possible that these were spread to disparage his name at the benefit of his detractors. And this is where the MGB comes into play.

Silently, the MGB had gathered a series of scientists, most notably Georg Muller and Edwin Hoernle, to blindly test this mans theories. Of course, they and nobody else would know that they were testing Lysenko's claims, but that was not necessary to see if the man was telling the truth. As far as they were concerned, they were simply ensuring the agricultural practices of the Soviet Union were in the best shape they could be. Once these scientists were finished, they were allowed to return to their previous work, but until such a time they were expected to be working full time on this project. In the meantime, the MGB would continue to keep track of Lysenko and his movements....
